Who is responsible for your data

Yoneco is operated by Marco Roland Ferenczi, the data controller for the purposes of the GDPR — the party that decides what is collected and why. Questions about this policy, and the requests described under Your choices, go to support@yoneco.app.

How We Use Data

This app does not use your data for advertising and does not sell your data to third parties.

App Operation and Improvement

Any data collected through app usage is used only to operate the app and improve the product experience.

What Yoneco Stores, and Why

• Account and sign-in. Yoneco creates an anonymous account the first time you open it so your progress can be backed up. If you sign in with an email address, a Google account or an Apple ID, that email address and sign-in provider are stored with the account. With Apple's Hide My Email, the address is the relay address Apple gives Yoneco, not your own.
• Study progress. The words you study, your review scores, deck choices and reading settings are kept on your device and backed up to your account so they follow you across devices.
• Stories and decks. Generated stories are stored so they can be shown again, and a story built around a set of words may be reused for other learners studying the same words. Custom decks you create — their title, topic and word list — are stored with your account and may be reviewed by the app team before publication.
• Feedback and reports. If you rate the app, report a story or write a word hint, that text is stored so the team can act on it.
• Usage analytics. Anonymous usage events (for example that a story was completed, or that a screen was opened) help us understand which features matter. Analytics events are linked to a pseudonymous identifier derived from your account, never to your email address. In the web app analytics run only after you accept them in the cookie banner; in the Android and iOS apps you can turn them off under Settings → Privacy.
• Crash reports (Android and iOS apps) so that errors can be fixed. They can be turned off together with analytics.
• Study reminders. Your time zone is stored with your account so reminders arrive at the right time of day. Once you allow notifications, a push notification token and a random identifier the app creates for the device are stored too, whether or not reminders are switched on. Signing out normally removes that device's token and identifier; the time zone stays with the account until the account is deleted.
• Purchases. Premium is sold through Google Play on Android and the App Store on iOS. Yoneco records the store's purchase or subscription identifier, the plan, when it renews or ends, and whether it is active; card and billing details never reach Yoneco.

Services We Rely On

• Google Firebase and Google Cloud provide authentication, the cloud database, the servers that generate stories, web hosting, push notifications, App Check (which uses reCAPTCHA on the web to keep abusive traffic away from the story service), and — with your consent — Google Analytics and Crashlytics. For Premium's natural voices, Google Cloud Text-to-Speech reads a story's text aloud; it receives the story text and nothing about you, and the recording is kept with the story so the next reader of it hears the same one.
• OpenAI generates stories, custom decks and hints. It receives the words you are studying and the deck titles, topics and requests you write; it does not receive your account details.
• Google Play handles Premium payments on Android, and Apple's App Store on iOS.
• Apple handles Sign in with Apple on iOS. Deleting an account that signs in with Apple also asks Apple to remove Yoneco from that Apple ID.

These providers may process data outside the European Economic Area under their data-processing terms, which include the standard contractual clauses for such transfers.

Cookies and Browser Storage

The pages on yoneco.app set no cookies. The web app keeps the dictionary, your progress and your sign-in in your browser's storage because it cannot work without them, and uses Google Analytics cookies only if you accept them. The cookie policy explains what is stored, what it is for, and how to change your choice.

Your Choices

• Turn analytics (and crash reports) on or off at any time under Settings → Privacy in the app.
• Clearing the site data in your browser or the app data on Android removes everything Yoneco keeps on that device. Deleting the app on iOS removes its data too, but iOS can keep the app's sign-in in the Keychain after the app is deleted; sign out first so that your account's sign-in is not kept.
• Delete your account and its backed-up progress from Account → Delete account in the app (Delete my data for a guest profile you never registered). The deletion is scheduled 14 days ahead; until then a guest profile can cancel it in the app, and a registered account, which is signed out at once, can be reactivated by an email to support@yoneco.app; what is deleted, what is kept, and what stays with Google Analytics is set out on its own page.
